Syncrosense is an innovative system for shooting range training.

In many traditional military and civilian shooting ranges, targets are placed at distances of 100 meters or more from the trainee. After a series of shots, the targets often need to be checked physically to evaluate the hits and record the results. This process may require stopping the shooting session and walking to the targets, which takes time effort and raises safety risks. As a result, the evaluation phase reduces the productivity of the training.

The Syncrosense system aims to improve the training by digitizing the evaluation phase.

The system consists of 3 parts: the detection device, the target and the stand. The device analyses the hit locations by using acoustic sensors. The results are then transmitted to a designated app that present the raw hit and advanced stats to the trainee in real time. This way the trainee gets instant feedback so he/she can improve within the training session. The device also indicates with the user by emitting various uniquely bright light colors, ensuring they can be seen from afar on bright and sunny days.

In terms of design, our aim was to harmonize and integrate the product’s functional elements, such as the interface for attaching the device to its stand, lights, and providing a flat (minimally distorted) surface for the three openings corresponding to the acoustic sensors, while utilizing a design language that conveys a strong visual sense of durability, ruggedness, and efficiency.

The stand for the target and detection device was designed to be lightweight, stackable, and easy to move, since shooting ranges are often set up temporarily and may require frequent repositioning of targets. Because shooting practice is conducted outdoors in various weather conditions, the stand needed to be wind resistant. To address this, we designed the stand with a bowl-shaped base that can be filled with rocks found at the shooting range. This adds stability during use. Once the practice is over, the rocks can be removed, allowing the stand to be easily packed and transported. The stands also contain steel protection plates which shield the device from direct hits and ricochets.

In terms of design, the stand was designed for maximum functionality. Because of this, we wanted to integrate the product’s features, such as the handle and mounting points for the device and target, as well as its functional attributes, such as stability and mobility, with a design language that conveys robustness and functionality.
