Moby is a large beverage tub and campaigner designed for the hospitality industry, offered in both countertop and freestanding versions. Produced using rotation molding, Moby’s seamless double-wall structure provides thermal insulation to keep beverages chilled while preventing external condensation and keeping surfaces dry.
The product offers dual functionality: it can be used as a beverage cooler, with the inner cavity filled with ice to maintain cold temperatures for bottles. Alternatively, it can be used as a serving piece, featuring a stainless-steel insert bowl that allows for the elegant presentation of chilled drinks or food, kept cool through ice placed underneath it.
Moby was conceived as a sculptural object with a strong spatial presence, designed to hold its own in large environments such as hotels lobbies, lounges, receptions, and outdoor terraces. From a morphological perspective, texture played a central role in designing the three-dimensional shape of Moby, and the form was developed in direct dialogue with the texture, allowing the surface pattern to guide and emphasize the overall shape.
Moby is a result of a close 2 year collaboration with Mogogo.
Moby can serve food and beverages directly using a stainless-steel insert bowl, offering an elegant presentation of chilled drinks or dishes kept cool by ice beneath.
Moby made its debut at HostMilano 2025, the international trade exhibition dedicated to the hospitality industry.
While working on the first 1:1 cardboard model of Moby, we realized that the model was not strong enough to hold real wine bottles, so we modeled the them of cardboard as well 😃
Texture development played a significant role in the design of Moby, and the overall morphology of the object emerged from a dialogue between the form and the texture, with the surface pattern guiding and emphasizing the overall shape. This relationship between form and surface informed not only Moby’s aesthetic but also its spatial presence.
From the start, Moby was conceived as a sculptural object with a commanding presence, intended to stand out in expansive environments such as hotel lobbies, lounges, reception areas, and outdoor terraces. To achieve this, the texture was designed to be legible from a distance, while remaining refined and sophisticated up close.
In addition to its visual impact, the texture was carefully considered from a usability perspective, ensuring it could be easily cleaned.
Finally, the texture also addressed manufacturing considerations. Because Moby is produced using rotational molding (a process less precise than others, such as injection molding), the surface pattern helps camouflage imperfections, ensuring a consistent and high-quality finish.
