Fimo Vase is part of the studio’s ongoing interest in vases. The project explores the archetype of the vase and reexamines its foundations. Through this reexamination we realized that a vase needs to be sealed only in its lower part in order to hold water.
We materialized this understanding by using circle patches of fimo clay which are placed around a degradable vase. The bottom part is placed densely in order to receive a sealed surface and the top part is placed loosely. After the fimo is baked, the degradable vase is dissolved leaving only a freestanding arrangement of fimo patches.
