Canvas is a modular shelving system designed for the hospitality sector.
The system, which includes 15 modular interchangeable add-ons, enables professionals to easily customize the unit to their business’s needs and creative vision. The collection is ideal as a back bar or for showcasing food, beverages and related products.
The heart of the system is a snap system which allows the various add-ons to be easily assembled and disassembled using no tools. The snaps enable the add-ons to securely and strongly fasten to the frame which allows the system to be moved around with no rattling or shaking.
One of the key challenges of the project was to design a system which is both durable (taking into consideration the unique and challenging requirements of food-service, such as high wear and tear) and visually warm and homey.
In order to achieve this, we decided to use bamboo, leaning on Mogogo’s vast experience in the use of the material in previous products. The bamboo has the warmth of wood, but opposed to wood, offers more stability due to its unique structure which has very little deformation. Additionally, we were able to structure further the bamboo by designing the assembly of the various bamboo pieces to best fit each part’s structural needs.

The project is the result of a close and fertile 4 year collaboration between our studio and Mogogo.

Canvas is available with 2 bases, a wheel base and a leg base.
Canvas is available in 2 color schemes: Natural bamboo with stainless steel add ons and dark brown stained bamboo with copper plated add ons. The color scheme is the result of thorough CMF research and evaluation, with a purpose to achieve maximum compatibility for various space styles while maintaining a manageable back stock.

We designed 2 types of connectors, that can each snap to a pin which is inserted to the holes in the frame: A square connector for flat add ons and a cylindrical connector for the tubular add ons.
The connectors enable the add-ons to securely and strongly fasten to the frame which allows the system to be moved around, according to the venues constantly changing needs, with no rattling or shaking.
Although all the add ons were created equally, we have to admit that we do have a few favorites : ) One of these favorites is the screen add on, which allows to “close” the shelves with a textile cover which attaches to holes on the frame using plastic connectors and elastic cord. The screens allow the shelves to turn into a space divider, a much needed function in many hospitality spaces.
Another one of our favorite add ons is the shelf divider. The divider is locked in place by a shelf which has a rail on its bottom side. The rail prevents the divider from slipping or sitting crooked on the shelf but allows to easily move the divider to the right and left by a push of a hand.
