Ever since we started using the Formlabs 3d printer we have been fascinated by the aesthetics of the printer’s automatically generated supports. These purely functional supports spread on the object like a gentle plant and enable its fabrication.

We were so intrigued by these supports that we wanted to design an object which includes them in the final design. The object is ready to use as soon as it is cleaned with no need for secondary processing and with zero waste of material.

The supports which are originally a technical backstage process of the 3d printing process become a prominent part of the objects ornamentation and design language and redefine the 20th century notions of “form follows function” aesthetics.
